On December 31, 2009, H.E. ZHANG Weidong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia, and Hon. Lorin Robert, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Federated States of Micronesia, signed the Economic and Technical Cooperation agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia on behalf of their respective government in Palikir, Pohnpei, FSM.

In his speech, H.E. ZHANG Weidong said that, as a developing country, China's assistant to the FSM within its own capability exemplifies that the Chinese Government and people cherish the freindly cooperation relations batween China and the FSM. In the coming new year, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China would like to work closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the FSM to promote the friendly relations between our two countries and bring benefits to our peoples. Secretary Lorin Robert thanked the Chinese Government and people for their aid and said that this is the best new-year gift to the government and people of the FSM. The Chinese government's aid played an important role in helping the FSM in economic and social development. He wished the friendship between the FSM and China develop further in the new year.

Also attending the ceremony are Assistant Secretary Kandhi Elieisar, Deputy Assistant Secretary Brendy Carl, Deputy Assistant Secretary Martin, from the Department of Foreign Affairs of the FSM, and Counselor QIN Jian and First Secretary BAI Xia from the Chinese Embassy.
