Breathtaking Spectacle of Chinese Spring Festival in Malta

2010/02/10

A marvelous presentation by a group of 30 Chinese artists from the capital city Beijing gave a highlight to the 2010 Valletta Chinese Spring Festival with standing ovation from the audiences on February 9, 2010 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

The artists from various established cultural institutions in Beijing, such as China National Acrobatic Troupe, China Opera and Dance-Drama Company and Beijing Dance Academy, presented a grand and spectacular feast of Chinese performing arts to over a thousand audiences at MCC.

A combination of upbeat and melodious Chinese music, graceful classical dance, breathtaking acrobatic show, magnificent martial arts and humorous magic has demonstrated to the full the crème of the traditional Chinese culture and the arts.

A young acrobat stole the spotlight of the evening with an amazingly beautiful programme of balancing on a single hand which left the audience gasping in admiration. The original edition of the programme once won golden award at the Italy Juvenile Arts Festival.

Guests of honour present at the evening were H.E. Dr. Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, President Emeritus of Malta, the Hon. Mrs. Dolores Cristina, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Alexiei Dingli, Mayor of Valletta, H.E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Malta, Ms. Wang Hui, Director of Beijing Information Office, Mr. Zheng Hao, Director of China Cultural Centre and heads of diplomatic missions in Malta. Congratulations and thanks were given to the artists and the organizers when the guests of honour received the cast after the show.

The 4th edition of the Valletta Chinese Spring Festival jointly organised by China Cultural Centre and the Valletta Local Council under the patronage of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of Malta and the Chinese Embassy in Malta. The Malta Tourism Authority, the Mediterranean Conference Centre and the Grand Hotel Excelsior have also rendered great support to the events.

Apart from the evening show, the series of events of the Festival also included the opening performance at the St. George's Square and street parade as well as the ongoing oil painting exhibition by contemporary Chinese students at China Cultural Centre. What is to expect is the Chinese New Year Dinner and fireworks display on February 13, 2010 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.
