Tianjin Music Group party with Chinese Steel Ensemble of Trinidad and Tobago at Ambassador's Residence

In the evening of May 29, 2011, members of the visiting Tianjin Music Group intermingled with the Chinese Steel Ensemble of Trinidad and Tobago at the Ambassador's residence. The event was hosted by H.E. Mr. Yang Youming, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, and his wife Mme. Geng Hailing. Other guests at the event included some local friends, representatives from the Chinese community and Chinese companies as well as staff members of the Embassy.
Ambassador Yang extended his warm welcome to all the guests. He told them that the evening was for Chinese musical instruments to meet with steel pan, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. He said that the Tianjin Music Group's visit would further promote the cultural exchange between China and Trinidad and Tobago, and strengthen the traditional friendship between our two peoples. Ambassador Yang wished the group a very successful visit in Trinidad and Tobago.
The evening was kicked off by melodies of Chinese traditional music played by the Chinese artistes. Erhu performer Mr. Lu Guofeng, Guzheng performer Mme. Fan Bofang, Dulcimer performer Mr. Wang Yue and Pipa performer Mme. Xu Yingmei respectively played masterpieces of Chinese traditional music "the Moon Reflected on the Erquan", "the Sound of Fishermen on Homebound Boat", "Dragon Boat" and "the Ambush" , and concluded their performance with an ensemble of joyful Cantonese folk piece "Rising Higher Step by Step". Their excellent performance won loud applauses and cheers from the guests.
The Chinese Steel Ensemble performed their favourite series of Chinese folk pieces on their steel pans. The artistes of the Tianjin Music Group then joined them and they played together two pieces: "Oh My Sweet" and "Love at the Riverside", which marked the peak moment of the evening. The artistes from both sides were extremely excited about their joint performance, and hailed it as an unforgettable moment of two cultures meeting each other.
