On Feb. 7. 2012, H.E. Mr. Yang Youming, Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, visited the University of West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus, and met with its Principal Professor Clement Sankat. They discussed on how to further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

Professor Sankat warmly welcomed Ambassador Yang for the visit. He said that with the active support from the Chinese Embassy, UWI had made progress in Chinese Language teaching and other cultural and educational exchanges. He hoped that the two sides would carry out more cooperation in the future. Ambassador Yang said that the Chinese side valued its good relations with UWI, and wished the two sides would continue to make joint efforts to further expand the exchanges and cooperation in teaching, research and other fields.

Ambassador Yang also said that the Chinese Embassy would take part in the UWI "Foreign Language Film Festival" scheduled in March, offering Chinese movies and other support. Professor Sankat thanked the Ambassador for the gesture.
