China's Special Envoy to the Middle East Mr. Wu Sike Meets with Israeli FM Avigdor Lieberman and PM Netanyahu's Special Envoy Yitzhak Molcho

On 19th February 2012, Mr. Wu Sike, China's Special Envoy to the Middle East who was paying a visit to Israel, met respectively with Mr. Avigdor Lieberman, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Mr. Yitzhak Molcho, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's Special Envoy for the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in Jerusalem, and mainly exchanged views on major issues of common concern. Mrs. Gao Yanping, Chinese ambassador to Israel, Mr. Dai Yuming, Political Counselor of the Embassy, and Mrs. Ruth Kahanoff, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel among others were present. Wu Sike stressed that major changes in the current international and regional situations are undergoing, however, the Middle East peace process should not be neglected. Recently, Israel and Palestine conducted a number of contacts for the resumption of talks, showing the intention for peace from both sides. The Chinese side expresses its welcome and support, and hopes the two sides, especially Israel to take action, seize the opportunity and show flexibility to create favorable conditions for resuming talks. The Chinese side is willing to continue to play a constructive role.
At the inquiry, Wu Sike briefed Chinese policy and what it has done on the Syrian issue and stressed that the Chinese side takes an impartial way on the Syrian issue, and condemn all acts of violence against innocent civilians. Syrian Government should seriously listen to its people's reasonable demands to change and develop. The political spectrum in Syria should take a non-violent ways to express their political will. Relevant parties should immediately open an inclusive political dialogue without preconditions, to promote the Syrian issue to be solved properly.
Lieberman introduced Israeli view on the current situation in the region, saying drastic changes in the Middle East have made the situation in the region more complex. He stressed under the new situation, Israel attached great importance on China's influence on international and regional affairs. He appreciates China's efforts to promote talks, said the key to solve the Palestinian-Israeli problem is to insist on promoting direct dialogue between Israel and Palestine. Israel is willing to keep in close communication with the Chinese side on issues of Israeli-Palestinians and other hot issues. Mr. Molcho introduced the recent contacts made by the two sides and the efforts made by Israel, emphasizing the Israeli side will adhere to the political choice of a negotiated settlement.
