Ladies and Gentlemen,
As a fast growing economy, India's demand for clean energy is expanding rapidly. Energy is the lifeline of any country's economy. To maintain a healthy and sustainable growth of economy, sufficient energy supply is essential. According to the Indian power ministry, The Indian Government has pledged to provide electricity nationwide by 2012, which would require installation of more generation capacity in order to meet the target. The Government of India also has announced a national manufacturing policy with the objective of enhancing the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25% within a decade and creating 100 million jobs. To this end, the Indian Government has taken a series of concrete steps and planned to allocate around $1 trillion in the 12th Five-Year plan for infrastructure development. Power sector occupies a major part of it. The opening of the Shanghai Electric Indian Company corresponds to Indian National development strategy. In view of the targeted annual growth rate of 8 to 9 per cent for Indian economy, I foresee a bright future for China and India to cooperate in power sector.
Ladies and Gentleman,
The opening of Shanghai Electric Indian Company in Gurgaon comes at the most opportune moment when China-India bilateral relation is in the best period. As two fast emerging economies, China-India economic cooperation has maintained a strong and sustained growth in recent years in spite of the global financial crisis. China and India today are major trading partners of each other. Two-way trade volume reached 73.9 billion USD in 2011. Two countries have become the powerhouse of world economy. China and India are partners in cooperation. Each country has its own strength and both can compliment to each other. If two countries work together, both can develop fast, better, and more efficient.
Recent years has also witnessed growing mutual investments between two countries. From Chinese side, Some top-notch companies, such as Huawei, ZTE, Sinosteel, Sany heavy Industry and Liugong, have invested and operated in India. Until the end of 2011, around 88 companies have set up their business in India. Apart from that, many more Chinese enterprises are also actively looking into the possibility to invest in India in infrastructure, manufacturing, green energy, automobile production and steel industry as well. Those investments would not only upgrade the economic structure of India, but also create a large number of job opportunities for the local people and promote the social welfares and economic development in the regions. Chinese Government encourages Chinese enterprises to go abroad and also welcome foreign companies to invest in China. I am sure, with growing understanding of Indian market and improving investment environment, more and more Chinese companies will choose India as their investment destination.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Guided by the far-sighted and strategic vision of the leadership of two countries, China-India strategic cooperative partnership relations are developing in an all round manner characterized by frequent high level interactions and intensifying exchanges at all levels and in all fields. During Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India in December 2010, two sides have set a new trade target of 100billion USD by the 2015 and agreed to expand the scope of bilateral cooperation by extending into infrastructure, environment, transportation telecommunication, banking and finance. At the end of this month, India will play the host of BRICS Leaders Meeting in New Delhi. Chinese leader will come to attend the Meeting and held talks with Indian leader on bilateral issues. I am sure such high level interactions will further push the development of friendship and cooperation between China and India. I sincerely hope the Indian Company of Shanghai Electric in India will play an important role in promoting bilateral economic and financial cooperation and make its contribution for the furtherance of our mutually beneficial relationship.
