Consul General Xu Erwen Meets with President of the University of Oklahoma

On Feb 29, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with President David L. Boren of the University of Oklahoma, who has also served Oklahoma as Governor and U.S. Senator. Prof. Paul Bell, Vice Provost and Dean of College of Art and Science, Ms. Sharon Gou, Director of OU Confucius Institute and Consul Zhou Yujiang, Consul Xu Baiyu etc. were present.
President Boren welcomed Consul General Xu to the University of Oklahoma. He pleasantly recalled his contributive interactions with China during his tenure of being Governor of Oklahoma, US senator as well as the current position of President of the University, stating that he has always been supportive to the betterment of US-China relationship, the most important bilateral relationships in the world. He said that the US and China share a lot of common interests, and that cooperation between the two countries is vital to world peace and stability. President Boren also introduced Consul General Xu with Oklahoma University's educational exchanges and cooperation with China. He was delighted to witness the fruitful results of the bilateral cooperation on education. The 100,000 Strong initiative by the US and Three 10000 initiative by China (ie, China would provide scholarships to 10,000 US college students to study in China, implement the "Chinese Bridge" study program for 10,000 US citizens in China, and send 10,000 PhD candidates to the US on Chinese government scholarships) will greatly promote the cultural exchanges and bond the two peoples tighter. They are very beneficial to the long term development of China-US relations.
Consul General Xu applauded President Boren for his contribution to the China-US relationship. She briefed him with the latest development of the relationship and pointed out that the healthy and stable development of China-US relationship is not only beneficial to the two countries but also to the whole world. Vice President Xi Jinping's recent official visit to US consolidated the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and two peoples, and injected strong momentum to the building of the cooperative China-US partnership. China and the US should continue working together to boost the mutual beneficial and pragmatic cooperation in all fields, thus enriching the China-US cooperative partnership. Consul General Xu congratulated Oklahoma University for its productive cooperation with its Chinese counterparts. She looked forward to more cooperation between the two sides. Consul General Xu also exchanged views with President Boren on topics of their common interest. When she was on OU campus, Consul General Xu also visited the Confucius Institute and attended a welcoming dinner hosted by OU Vice Provost, Prof. Paul Bell.
