Consul General Xu Erwen Meets with Mayor of Oklahoma City

On Feb 28, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with Mayor Cornett of Oklahoma City in the city hall. Consul Zhou Yujiang and Consul Chen Zhiwen were present.

Mayor Cornett welcomed Consul General Xu to Oklahoma City. He informed her with the city's history and recent development. He also mentioned his visit to China last year, saying that he was very much impressed by China's fast development. He expected more cooperation between Oklahoma City and China.

Consul General Xu briefed Mayor Cornett on the latest development of China-U.S. relationship. She pointed that February 28 was a special day as it marked the 40th anniversary of President Nixon's first visit to China and the releasing of the Shanghai Communiqué. During the past 40 years, China-U.S. relationship has made comprehensive development and become one of the most important, the most dynamic, and the most promising bilateral relationships in the world. Consul General Xu spoke highly of the exchanges and cooperation between Oklahoma City and China in the areas of economy, culture and education. She stressed that the two sides have many opportunities to work together and she was looking forward to joining hands with Mayor Cornett to promote the pragmatic cooperation to a higher level.

Oklahoma City is the biggest city in the state of Oklahoma, where the largest industries are petroleum, natural gas and related industries. The city is home to two Fortune 500 companies: Devon Energy Corporation and Chesapeake Energy Corporation.
