（From Chinese Mission to the United Nations Office at Geneva）
Ambassador LIU Zhenmin, the recently arrived new Permanent Representative of China in Geneva, marked the assumption of his duties at a reception on March 12. About 250 guests including ambassadors and senior diplomats, heads of UN agencies and other international organizations, local dignitaries and Chinese nationals in Geneva attended the event and offered congratulations and good wishes to him and his wife Madame YIN Ai.
Speaking to the well-wishing crowd, Ambassador Liu recalled his fond memory of three years spent in Geneva during his assignment in early 1990's and expressed his joy in coming back. He drew attention to the profound and complex changes taken place in the world in the last 20 years, compounding global challenges in particular. He said that the "global village" we live in has become a "community of common destiny", in which we share our interests and future, in which multilateralism has become the inevitable choice of all.
Ambassador Liu highlighted Geneva's unique place as a hub for multilateral diplomacy and a platform for practicing multilateralism and strengthening global governance. He also described Geneva as the place where the People's Republic of China made its debut in multilateral diplomacy. He said that for decades China has been a strong advocate and active practitioner of multilateralism, firmly supporting the central role of the United Nations in international affairs and advancing international cooperation to tackle global challenges, doing its part in maintaining world peace and promoting common development. He reaffirmed China's commitment to greater contribution to global economic growth, world peace and stability.
Ambassador Liu arrived in Geneva on 27 February and presented his credentials to the United Nations Office at Geneva the next day.
