Ambassador Liu Zhenmin Met with Secretary-General of UNCTAD

On 19 March, Ambassador Liu Zhenmin, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland, met with Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Ambassador Liu and the Secretary-General of UNCTAD exchanged views on major international issues related to current economic situation, as well as the cooperation between China and UNCTAD.
Ambassador Liu highly commended the significant role of UNCTAD in promoting global economic and trade development, safeguarding the interests of developing counties, enhancing South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue. Dr. Supachai welcomed Ambassador Liu to assume his new post in Geneva and expressed appreciations to China's contribution to UNCTAD. Both sides emphasized the importance of further enhancement of the cooperation among developing countries on the issues of global governance.
Ambassador Liu and Dr. Supachai also exchanged views on the current negotiation of the outcome document of UNCTAD XIII.
