Chinese Embassy Holds Reception on the 40th Anniversary of Chinese Medical Team in Sierra Leone

On March 26, Ambassador KUANG Weilin held a reception to mark the 40th anniversary of Chinese Medical Team in Sierra Leone. Present at the reception were Minister of Health and Sanitation Hon. Mrs. Zainab Hawa Bangura, Minister of Agriculture Dr. Sam Sesay, Minister of Information and Communication Hon. Alhaji I.B. Kargbo, as well as representatives from Sierra Leone's all walks of life, international organizations, the Chinese communities and the Chinese Medical Team. A photo exhibition and a TV documentary were launched at the reception to highlight the work of the Chinese Medical Team.
Ambassador Kuang Makes a Speech Ambassador Kuang spoke highly of the friendly bilateral relations and the fruitful cooperation in medical care between the two countries. He praised the Chinese medical teams for what they have done over the past 40 years in promoting health care in Sierra Leone and the bilateral friendship and emphasized that China will continue to provide assistance and support to the development of health care in Sierra Leone.
Minister Bangura Makes a Speech Minister Bangura expressed her gratitude for the enormous support and assistance that China has provided to Sierra Leone in the past 40 years, commending the outstanding contribution that the Chinese medical teams have made in promoting health care in the country. Looking to future, she was confident of more exchanges and better cooperation in relevant fields between the two countries.
Ambassador Kuang & His Wife and Minister Bangura with the Chinese Medical Team China has dispatched 15 medical teams with 201 doctors to Sierra Leone. Over the 40 years, the Chinese doctors have received nearly 2,000,000 patients and saved over 20,000 people in critical conditions, with over 200,000 operations in total. In addition, the Chinese doctors have in recently years performed many free cataract and gynecological operations. Their work has won praise and recognition from the Sierra Leonean government and people.
