Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei Holds Political Consultation with Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Tamer

On November 7, 2007, visiting Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei and Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Tamer Khalil held political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries. Egypt's Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Eastern Arab Affairs and Li Chen, Charge d'affaires at the Chinese embassy in Egypt attended the consultation meeting.

Wu highlighted Egypt's long-term efforts to enhance China-Egypt relations, expressing China's appreciation for Egypt's adherence to the one-China policy. Wu also noted that China would like to make more efforts together with Egypt to create a new frontier of China-Egypt relations in the new era.

The leaders of the two countries have always attached importance to bilateral ties, said Tamer. The exchanges of high-level visits between the two countries are frequent and the bilateral contacts between government agencies are also very active, Tamer noted, expecting more efforts to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation and facilitate more Chinese tourists to Egypt. Tamer reiterated Egypt's adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to any act that may lead to the separation of Taiwan from China.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.

Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei is in Egypt for political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries at the invitation of Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Tamer Khalil.
