Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo Meets with Chairman of Lithuanian Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Karosas

On April 7, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met in the Chinese Foreign Ministry with a visiting delegation of members of parliament headed by Justinas Karosas, chairman of the Lithuanian parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee.

Wu said the Lithuanian parliament attaches importance to developing ties with China and has maintained sound cooperative relations with the National People's Congress of China. The Chinese government gives priority to developing ties with Lithuania and appreciates its adherence to the one-China policy, said Wu, expressing willingness to work with the Lithuanian side to push bilateral ties to one new level after another.

Karosas said since the two countries established diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have witnessed satisfactory development with close political exchanges, fruitful economic and trade cooperation and sound communication in international and regional affairs. Reaffirming his country's firm adherence to the one-China policy, Karosas said to further develop ties with China is a consensus shared by the Lithuanian government and people and the Lithuanian parliament is ready to continue making positive efforts to push for bilateral ties.

The Lithuanian delegation is scheduled to visit China from April 6 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs. Besides Beijing, the delegation will also visit Chengdu and Xiamen.
