On the morning of May 5, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met with visiting French Secretary General for National Defence Francis Delon. A series of events that were unfriendly to Chinese occurred in France recently. "Such events are what we do not want to see," Wu said. He expressed hope that France will take earnest measures and work with China to bring bilateral ties back to the track of sound and stable development as soon as possible. Delon said France and China shoulder important responsibility on the international arena. To develop friendly relations of mutual trust with China is a clear aspiration of the French government. France respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and wishes the Beijing Olympic Games a success, he said. France will hold the rotating EU presidency in the second half of this year. Delon expressed his country's willingness to play a positive role in pushing forward EU-China relations. Both sides also exchanged views on the Iranian nuclear issue, the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and international counter-terrorism.
