On the afternoon of May 20, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo met with Tom Enders, president and chief executive officer of Airbus. Both sides exchanged views on Airbus's cooperation with China and China-EU relations. Wu briefed Enders on the earthquake disaster in Sichuan and China's relief efforts. Enders expressed condolences to the earthquake victims and sympathy to the Chinese people, saying that Airbus is ready to offer relief materials and transport facilitation for China's disaster relief.

Enders attended the mourning ceremony held by the Foreign Ministry and signed the condolence book. He also conveyed to Wu a cheque for 5 million RMB yuan donated by Airbus to the people in the disaster-stricken areas.
