Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Visits the Foreign Medical Teams in China's Disaster-hit Areas

On May 30, 2008, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, while accompanying South Korean President Lee Myung Bak for a visit to the earthquake-hit areas, especially spared time to visit the British, Cuban, Japanese, Russian and German medical teams working in Chengdu for disaster relief. Yang said that the international community has extended valuable support and help to China since the severe earthquake rocked Sichuan province of China. Some countries quickly sent medical teams to the forefront of the disaster-hit areas. Those teams have worked hard under extremely harsh conditions to heal the wounded and rescue the dying and treated hundreds of injured people, which fully demonstrates the friendship with the Chinese people and the lofty humanitarian spirit of people all over the world and contributes greatly to China's disaster relief efforts. Their exquisite medical skills and professionalism are recognized and admired by the injured as well as their Chinese peers. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Yang expressed sincere gratitude and cordial greetings to the team members.
On the same day, Yang also held telephone conversations with the French and Italian medical teams to express gratitude. The medical teams made highly positive remarks on the quick and effective disaster relief efforts of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Chinese government and expressed admiration for the firm will and kind character of the Chinese people. They also thanked the Chinese side for its close cooperation in the treatment of the injured and extended wish the Chinese people achieve the final success of overcoming the difficulties caused by the earthquake as soon as possible.
