Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang Attends Inauguration Ceremony of SCO Secretary General Imanaliev

On January 21, 2010, the inauguration ceremony of the new Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Beijing. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang attended and addressed the ceremony at invitation.

Li first congratulated Secretary General Muratbek Imanaliev on assuming his new office and highly praised the achievements of the SCO in its development in recent years. Li fully acknowledged the Secretariat's important contributions to the SCO's development, expressing hope that Imanaliev and all the Secretariat staff will play a greater role in promoting good-neighborly and friendly cooperation among member states. Li said the Chinese government will as always support the SCO's development and the Secretariat's work and will commit itself to safeguarding regional peace and stability and promoting regional development and prosperity.

Secretary General Imanaliev thanked for China's strong support to the work of the SCO and its Secretariat over the years, pledging to continue enhancing the Secretariat's internal building and strive to improve its work efficiency. The SCO is ready to work with its members states to push for sound development of the organization and promote regional good-neighborly friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.
