On August 1, 2011, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin met in the Foreign Ministry with a delegation of former Lao ambassadors and consuls general to China headed by Phongsavath Boupha, Minister to the Office of the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and former Ambassador to China. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral ties as well as issues of common concern.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The visit by the delegation of former Lao ambassadors and consuls general to China at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China is one of the main events celebrating the anniversary.
