The relations between the People's Republic of China and the Federated States of Micronesia experienced smooth development in 2010.

The two countries maintained close exchanges at the top and other levels. In April, Du Qiwen, Special Envoy for China-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue, visited Micronesia. In August, Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai had a meeting with President Emanuel Mori on the sidelines of the 22nd Post-Pacific Islands Forum Dialogue in Port Vila, Vanuatu. In late April and early May, President Mori paid a state visit to China and attended the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo. President Hu Jintao held a welcoming ceremony and official talks with him in Shanghai. President Mori and his delegation also visited Guangdong Province and Yiwu in Zhejiang Province. In late August and early September, Vice President Alik L. Alik came to China for Micronesia's National Pavilion Day at the Shanghai World Expo, which was on 29 August. He also visited Ningxia and Shandong. In late October and early November, Vice Speaker of the Congress Fredrico Primo came to China for the closing ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo. He also visited Yunnan and Hubei. In September, Vita Skilling, Secretary of Health and Social Affairs, led a delegation to China and attended in Shanghai the International Forum on Women in Urban Development and Commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. During the visit, Secretary Vita Skilling met with Health Minister Chen Zhu and Vice Chairwoman of the All-China Women's Federation Song Xiuyan. In October, Secretary Skilling attended the Fourth Poverty Reduction and Development Forum in Beijing.

The two countries carried out fruitful cultural and people-to-people exchanges as well as cooperation in business, education and tourism. Several projects undertaken by China were completed and handed over, including the government office building in the state of Pohnpei, a middle school in the state of Kosrae, and repair of the first passenger/cargo vessel provided by China. China sent its first medical team to the state of Chuuk. Phase VII of a pilot farm project with Chinese assistance was well underway. The Chinese government continued to offer scholarships to Micronesian students. In April, group visits by Chinese tourists to Micronesia were officially launched. In June, the Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe visited Micronesia. In November, Francis Itimai, Secretary of Transportation, Communication, and Infrastructure, visited Beijing, Heilongjiang and Jiangsu for commercial discussions with some Chinese companies.

In April, President Mori wrote to President Hu to express condolences over the massive earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai. In August, Akillino Susaia, the Micronesian Ambassador to China, wrote a letter to Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, in which he expressed, on behalf of President Mori and the government and people of Micronesia, condolences over the floods and heavy rains that had stricken China, particularly over the mudslide in Zhouqu, Gansu.
