ChinaandNauruestablished diplomatic relations onJuly 21, 2002.Since the establishment of diplomatic relations one year ago, the relations between the two countries have developed smoothly.In September,Chinasent itschargéd'affaires ad interimtoNauruand the Chinese Embassy inNauruwas formally set up.In April 2003, Xu Shiguo, the first Chinese Ambassador toNauru, presented his credentials to Derog Gioura, President of Nauru.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Aloysius Amwano, Minister of Finance of Nauru, Remy Narmaduk, Minister of Economic Development, and Nimrod Botelanga, Minister of Health, visitedChinasuccessively.In November 2002, He Yafei, Director of the Department of Affairas ofAmericasandOceaniaof the Chinese Foreign Ministry, met Rene Harris, President of Nauru, inMelbourne,Australia.
2.Bilateral economic and trade relations
According to statistics of the Chinese Customs, in 2002, the volume of trade betweenChinaandNauruwas US$420,000, and all was the volume ofChina's export toNauru.
In January, 2003, the Tianjin Troupe of Acrobatics and Martial Arts visitedNauru.This was the first time the Chinese side sent a large-scale theatre troupe to visitNaurusince the establishment of diplomatic relations betweenChinaandNauru.
