Hu Jintao Holds Telephone Conservation with Bush

2005/09/03

On the evening of September 3, Chinese President Hu Jintao held telephone conservation with US President George Bush upon request.

Bush introduced to Hu Jintao the heavy injuries and losses of life and property in three southern US states inflicted by Hurricane Katrina, noting that the US government is making every effort for disaster relief. He made special emphasis that the US government and people are highly grateful to the Chinese government and people for their friendly assistance.

Hu noted that at the difficult moment when the US people suffer serious natural disaster Chinese people stand with them firmly. He expressed confidence that the US government and people will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their home.

During the conversation the two heads of state agreed to delay President Hu Jintao's visit to the US which was originally scheduled in early September given the fact that the US government is coping with the serious natural disaster. Bush said that he is looking forward to President Hu's important visit to the US at a time convenient to both. The two heads of state also noted unanimously that they would continue to jointly push forward China-US constructive cooperative relations.

The two heads of state decided to hold a meeting during the summit on the 60th anniversary of the UN to be held in New York, mid September.
