China and Australia Hold the 10th Dialogue on Human Rights in Canberra

2006/07/25

The tenth China-Australia dialogue on human rights was held in Canberra on July 25, 2006, co-chaired by China's Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy Secretary David Ritchie.

The two sides briefed on their measures taken and progress achieved on human rights in the past year and exchanged views on labor rights, women and children's rights, judicature reforms and international cooperation on human rights. They also approved technical cooperation projects 2006-2007 between the two countries.

Both sides held that the two country's decade-old dialogue on human rights based on equality and mutual respect, which has featured a series of technical cooperation projects, has contributed to the understanding between the two governments and their people and has helped improve the human rights conditions in both countries.

The Chinese delegation also had an informal discussion with representatives from Australia's non-governmental organizations.
