On July 19, 2007, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with visiting Special Envoy Michael L'Estrange, who is the head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia and Australian Prime Minister's Special Envoy on Climate Change.

L'Estrange introduced the ideas of promoting discussions on climate change in the APEC leaders' meeting to be held in Sydney in September. Yang expounded China's basic positions on climate change and expressed the will to keep in touch with Australia on relevant issues.

Both sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations and other APEC-related issues.
