2007/08/31

On August 30, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Fijian Interim Government Epeli Nailatikau.

China-Fiji relations have achieved fruitful results since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1972, Yang said. Chinese government always attaches importance to developing relations with Fiji, and hopes to strengthen friendly exchanges in all areas and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, in a bid to enrich the China-Fiji important cooperative partnership for the benefit of both peoples, Yang said.

Echoing Yang's remarks, Nailatikau said China, as Fiji's sincere friend, has lent strong support and assistance to Fiji in the areas of politics, economy and the United Nations affairs, which the Fijian government and people deeply appreciate. Nailatikau reiterated his country's firm adherence to the one-China policy, saying Fiji will make joint efforts with China to push forward bilateral relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
