On February 4, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with visiting President of Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Luis Alberto Moreno.

Hailing the important role of IDB in the economic and social development of the Latin American region, Yang said China's participation in the IDB is in the interest of all parties concerned, and offers a new platform and opportunity for enhanced economic and trade cooperation between China and Latin America.

Moreno said IDB attaches importance to China’s role and influence and will make efforts to facilitate China-Latin America cooperation of mutual benefit.

Both sides also exchanged views on dealing with the international financial crisis and other issues.
