On the afternoon of June 8, 2004, Vice Minister Zhou Wenzhong met with Susan Chira, the foreign editor of the New York Times.

Zhou said China and the United States share extensive common interests despite some differences. We always hold that the two sides should respect each other, treat each other as equals, seek common grounds and put aside differences so as to promote sound and stable development of bilateral relations on the basis of the three joint communiqués between China and the United States.
