Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with Armenian President Robert Sedrakovich Kocharyan

On September 28, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with visiting Armenian President Robert Sedrakovich Kocharyan at the Great Hall of the People. Wen Jiabao made positive remarks on the development of China-Armenia relations. He said that Armenia is an important cooperation partner and reliable friend of China in the outer Caucasus. The Chinese government supports the efforts of the Armenian government to safeguard social stability and promote economic development and would like to conduct extensive and intensive cooperation with Armenia on the basis of mutual trust, equality and mutual benefit so as to promote the continuous development of China-Armenia relations. When talking about bilateral economic and trade relations, Wen Jiabao said that currently, China-Armenia bilateral trade cooperation has been continuously developing with the rapid growth of trade volume and the committee for bilateral economic and trade cooperation has held three meetings and done a good job in summarizing and planning bilateral economic and trade cooperation. China-Armenia economic and technological cooperation is taking off and the bilateral scientific and technological cooperation committee has formulated 15 prospective cooperation projects. He hopes that the two sides can fully utilize the joint committee mechanism, tap in depth their respective potentials and upgrade bilateral economic, trade, scientific and technological cooperation to a new level. Kocharyan noted that dialogue and cooperation between Armenia and China in various fields and at different levels has been going smoothly and scored positive results and the two sides have also conducted sound consultation and coordination in international and regional affairs. He said that there are no political differences and disputes existing between Armenia and China, which provides a foundation for development of bilateral ties, and he hoped that the two sides can deepen and expand cooperation in various fields especially economic and trade collaboration. The two sides should strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in agriculture, machinery, science, technology, traditional Chinese medicine, education and service trade by arousing the business community's enthusiasm for mutual exchanges.
