Wu Bangguo Meets with Armenian President Robert Sedrakovich Kocharyan

2004/09/28

On September 28, 2004, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo met with Armenian President Robert Sedrakovich Kocharyan at the Great Hall of the People.

Wu Bangguo said that both China and Armenia are countries with time-honored histories and profound cultural connotations and have made important contributions to the human civilizations with the two peoples holding friendly feelings towards each other. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, China-Armenia relations have been developing in an all-round manner. Mutual political understanding between the two sides has continuously deepened, exchanges and cooperation in various fields has gradually expanded and cooperation in international issues remains sound.

Wu Bangguo said that since Armenia holds an important geographic location and is a bridge linking the Asian continent to the European continent, China attaches importance to developing relations with Armenia and would like to make joint efforts with it to expand cooperation in a bid to bring benefits to the two peoples. China's NPC stands ready to strengthen exchanges with the National Assembly of Armenia and promote continuous development of bilateral ties.

Kocharyan noted that both Armenia and China enjoy unique cultures. Armenia holds the same views with China, holding that each country has right to choose the road to and mode of development according to its own cultural, faith, religious and ethnic features. The two countries have always respected and trusted each other and conducted sound cooperation in various fields. Armenia is pleased to see this and looking forward to new results continuously scored in bilateral cooperation.
