In 2010, the friendly relations and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Armenia maintained sound momentum of development and exchanges and cooperation in all fields continued to deepen. China-Armenia political relations enjoyed steady development and the two countries maintained high-level exchanges. On 2 May, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening ceremony of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai and met with President Hu Jintao. The two presidents reached important consensus on further growing China-Armenia friendship and cooperation. On 21 September, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan came to China for the activities of the National Pavilion Day of Armenia during the Shanghai World Expo and met with Vice Premier Li Keqiang. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields. On 5 October, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu met Secretary of the Armenian National Security Council Artur Baghdasarian when attending the International Conference of High Representatives for Security Affairs held in Sochi, Russia. From 10 to 13 April, Lei Mingqiu, Vice Chairman of the NPC Ethnic Affairs Committee and Vice Chairman of the NPC China-Armenia Friendship Group, led a delegation to Armenia. China and Armenia supported each other on issues involving the core interest of the other side and maintained coordination and communication on multilateral occasions such as the United Nations. Armenia firmly supported China's position on issues relating to Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang. Economic cooperation and trade between China and Armenia continued to develop with remarkable results in projects of economic and technological cooperation. On 2 June, Vice Minister of Commerce Fu Ziying led a Chinese trade delegation to Armenia. He met with Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan and held talks with Deputy Minister of Economy Ara Petrossyan. On 22 July, Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan visited Armenia and met with Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. On 3 May, Shanxi-Nairit Synthetic Rubber Co. Ltd, the largest joint venture between China and Armenia officially started its production and Armenian President Sargsyan attended the unveiling ceremony of the company. On 23 November, the renovation project of the Armenian Electrical Substation undertaken by Heilongjiang No. 1 Thermal Power Construction Corporation was completed successfully. The various kinds of grants provided by China to Armenia produced good results. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Armenia maintained sound momentum. On 9 June, a Confucius Institute Educational-Cultural Center was established in the Yerevan State Linguistic University after Brusov. On 2 November, Minister of Health Chen Zhu met Armenian Minister of Health Harutyun Kushdyan who was paying a visit to China upon invitation.
