Wu Bangguo and Huang Ju Meet Respectively with Belarussian President Lukashenko

On December 6, 2005, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju met respectively with Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, both sides have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges with mutual political trust continuously built up, shown mutual trust for each other on major issues involving state sovereignty and territorial integrity and share identical or similar views on key international issues. China attaches great importance to developing bilateral relations and would like to continue strengthening mutual political trust and strategic cooperation with Belarus and push for the development of bilateral relations and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Wu noted that the exchanges and cooperation between the NPC of China and the National Assembly of Belarus are an important part of bilateral relations. Recent years have witnessed frequent exchanges between the leaders of both sides and close contact between their special committees, which has made important contributions to promoting bilateral cooperation and relations. The two legislatures can strengthen exchanges and cooperation at all levels and push for all-round and in-depth development of bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation in various areas.

Huang said that China appreciates the Belarussian government for always pursuing the one-China policy. During the talks last day, President Hu Jintao reached many important consensuses with HE President Lukashenko. China would like to work with Belarus to seriously implement these consensuses and push for the development of bilateral relations and cooperation in various areas.

In order to further bilateral economic and trade cooperation, Huang suggested that both sides continue efforts in the following four aspects. First, to further open each other's markets, encourage their businesses to establish direct contact and steadily expand bilateral trade scale. Second, to expand mutual investment and joint production, push for large program cooperation and enhance the level of economic and technological cooperation. Third, to strengthen high and new tech cooperation, expand exchanges between scientific and technological personnel and push for the translation of scientific and technological achievements into productive forces. Fourth, to strengthen consultations and cooperation in international economic affairs. Huang indicated that China supports Belarus's accession to the WTO.

Lukashenko noted that Belarus would like to strengthen cooperation with China and push bilateral relations to achieve greater development on the existing sound basis. He thanked the NPC of China for precious support on international multilateral occasions and hoped that the two parliaments will reinforce exchanges and make greater contributions to the development of bilateral relations. He indicated that Belarus thanks for China's support of its accession to the WTO and will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.
