Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Acting Foreign Minister Otunbaeva of Kyrgyzstan

On May 11, 2005, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with acting Foreign Minister Roza Otunbaeva of Kyrgyzstan.

Li made positive comments on the development of bilateral ties over the past 13 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Kyrgyzstan, thanked the Kyrgyz government for resolutely adhering to the one-China policy and noted that China attaches great importance to its relations with Kyrgyzstan and treat Kyrgyzstan as a good neighbor, good friend and good partner. He expressed hope that both sides continue to deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, strengthen collaboration under such multilateral organization frameworks as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and push for the constant development of China- Kyrgyzstan good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations.

Otunbaeva expressed complete agreement with Li's comments on China-Kyrgyzstan relations, saying that the Kyrgyz government takes the relations with China as the priority of its foreign policy and will as always adhere to the one-China policy and further expand bilateral cooperation in such areas as politics, economy and trade, transport, security and humanities.

Both sides also exchanged opinions on the international and regional issues of common concern.

Otunbaeva came to China on May 10 for a working visit at the invitation of Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
