On May 12, 2005, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met in Beijing with acting Foreign Minister Roza Otunbaeya of Kyrgyzstan, who was paying a working visit to China.

Tang Jiaxuan said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China-Kyrgyzstan good-neighborly relations of friendliness and cooperation have been developing smoothly. Both sides have resolved the boundary issue completely and signed the Treaty on Good-Neighborly Relations, Friendship and Cooperation. Both sides have developed fruitful cooperation in such fields as security, economy and trade, supported each other on important issues of principle concerning independent sovereignty and territorial integrity and effectively safeguarded the common interests of both sides.

Tang Jiaxuan expressed that the Chinese side had persistently respected the choice by the Kyrgyz people and supported all efforts conducive to social stability, economic development and national harmony of Kyrgyzstan. It is the established policy of the Chinese government to develop long-term and stable relationship of good-neighbor, friendliness and cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan. China will not change such policy no matter how the international and regional situation changes. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Kyrgyz side to strengthen dialogues and communications, deepen mutual cooperation, enhance coordination and cooperation in such regional and international organizations as Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), maintain peace and stability in Central Asian region as well as push China-Kyrgyzstan relations to a new high.

Otunbaeya expressed the admiration for the great achievements made by China since reforms and opening up, appreciated the Chinese government and people for their help to Kyrgyzstan and reiterated that it is the priority choice of Kyrgyz diplomacy to develop relationship with China. The Kyrgyz government will continue to support China's reunification, strengthen the comprehensive cooperation with China as well as raise the level of bilateral relations.
