Wen Jiabao Meets with Kyrgyz President Bakiyev

2006/06/10

On June 9, 2006, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev in Zhongnanhai. Wen said that both countries are friendly neighbors. The successful resolution of the boundary issue left over from history has helped the border to become a link for bilateral friendship, the signing of the treaty on good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation has placed bilateral friendly cooperation of mutual benefits in legal forms and the 10-year cooperation program has planned the objectives for future cooperation. All these show that bilateral relations have had a sound basis and can fully make further progress.

He hoped that both sides will continue efforts in the following three areas. First, the trade mix should be optimized to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure construction and other areas and well implement assistance contribution and loans for Kyrgyzstan. Second, humanities exchanges should be actively conducted to lay a solid social foundation for bilateral relations. Third, cooperation in combating the "three forces" should be deepened within bilateral and SCO frameworks to jointly safeguard regional security and stability.
