Kyrgyz President Meets with Yang Jiechi

On July 9, 2007, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev met in Bishkek with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. At the meeting, Bakiev said China is Kyrgyzstan's sincere friend and important partner and developing ties with China is Kyrgyzstan's top diplomatic priority. Kyrgyzstan cherishes its traditional friendship with China, he said, pledging that his country will continue to unswervingly adhere to the one-China policy and strengthen cooperation with China in all areas. The president stressed that Kyrgyzstan is willing to conduct bilateral cooperation with China within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and combat the "three forces" including the "East Turkistan" separatists to safeguard peace, security and stability in the two countries and the whole region. Yang said that recent years have witnessed a rapid development of Chinese-Kyrgyz relations with deepened political mutual-trust and mutual-support in key issues of common concern. China appreciates the support Kyrgyzstan has offered on the issue of Taiwan, Tibet and East Turkistan, respects the development road Kyrgyzstan has chosen independently and will continue to support Kyrgyzstan's efforts in safeguarding sovereignty, maintaining stability and improving people's lives, he added. The Chinese foreign minister said this year marks the 15th anniversary of diplomatic ties with Kyrgyzstan and the fifth anniversary of the signing of the China-Kyrgyzstan Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. China is ready to take this opportunity and join hands with Kyrgyzstan to enhance high-level exchanges, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and promote the development of friendly ties in the new period, so that the two sides will remain good neighbors, partners and friends forever, he said. On the same day, Yang also met respectively with Kazakh Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin and Tajik Foreign Minister Kamrokhon Zarifi, who were in Kyrgyzstan to attend the regular foreign ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). They agreed to strengthen friendly exchanges at all levels, expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields and combat the "three forces" including the "East Turkistan" separatists in a bid to push for bilateral ties. Yang arrived in Bishkek on the evening of July 7 for an official visit and to attended the regular foreign ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
