President Hu Jintao's Special Envoy Chen Zhili Meets with Kyrgyz President Atambayev

On January 10, 2012, Chen Zhili, special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao and vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev in Bishkek. Chen first conveyed to Atambayev the cordial greetings and good wishes from President Hu Jintao. She said the two countries had upheld the principles of equality, mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit since they established diplomatic relations 20 years ago. This had helped the healthy and stable development of relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The Treaty on Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan provided a solid legal foundation for the development of the bilateral relationship, Chen said, adding bilateral cooperation in all areas yielded satisfying results. She said China-Kyrgyzstan relations had entered a new stage of comprehensive and in-depth development and development prospects had broadened. She said China was willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to improve the level of political mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation so as to lift bilateral relations to a new high. Atambayev asked Chen to convey his high esteem and good wishes to President Hu Jintao and extended welcome for Chen to visit Kyrgyzstan as President Hu's special envoy. He said he appreciated China's assistance to his country during the past 20 years and said Kyrgyzstan attached great importance to the development of relations with China. He said Kyrgyzstan would unswervingly support China's position on issues related to Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang and would support China in fighting "East Turkistan" terrorist forces. Atambayev said his country was willing to deepen cooperation in fields such as politics, security, economy and trade with China in an all-round way so as to promote the development of bilateral relations to a higher level in the interest of the two peoples. Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Wang Kaiwen and Assistant Foreign Minister Le Yucheng attended the meeting.
