On the evening of May 19, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi talked over phone with Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey respectively.

The foreign side once again expressed profound condolences to the victims of the Wenchuan earthquake as well as sincere sympathy to the people in the disaster-stricken areas, expressing their willingness to continue to offer further help if asked. Yang said the Chinese government is bringing into play forces and resources from all sides in its all-out relief efforts. China is thankful for the sympathy and assistance offered by the EU, Norway and Switzerland, Yang said, expressing firm belief that China will certainly be able to win the fight against the disaster and rebuild homeland with the strong leadership of the Chinese government, united strength of all Chinese people and great support from the international community.

Yang also exchanged views with the three officials on China-EU relations and other international and regional issues.
