On May 14, 2006, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks in Shanghai with his Tajik counterpart Talbak Nazarov, who was here in China for an official visit and to attend the 2006 Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States.

The two Foreign Ministers made positive comments on sound development of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the achievements of bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economy & trade and humanities. They agreed to strengthen consultations and cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, do a good job in the boundary survey between the two countries and continue joint efforts to combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism and extremism, as well as activities of drug trafficking.

Both sides indicated that they will strengthen communication and coordination to ensure the success of the upcoming SCO summit and push for smooth development of this organization so that it will play a bigger role in safeguarding peace and stability of this region, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation among member countries and realizing common development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the regional situation, the reform of the UN and other issues, and signed the 2006-2007 cooperation program between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
