State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan Meets with Secretary Poroshenko of the Ukrainian National Security & Defense Council

On July 22, 2005, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with visiting Secretary Petro Poroshenko of the Ukrainian National Security & Defense Council in the Great Hall of the People.

Tang said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ukraine the bilateral relations have been maintaining a sound momentum of development and the mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields achieved fruitful results. China is satisfied with the development of bilateral ties. To enhance the long-term friendship and strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation with Ukraine is an established policy of the Chinese government. We expect to work with Ukraine to constantly deepen the traditional friendship, build up political mutual trust and broaden pragmatic cooperation on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in a bid to raise the China-Ukraine all-round friendly and cooperative relations to a new level.

Poroshenko noted that Ukraine attaches importance to developing relations with China. To expand exchanges, enhance cooperation and increase trust between the two countries are beneficial to their peoples and in the fundamental interests of both sides. The bilateral cooperation enjoys great potential and promising prospects. The Ukrainian government thanks the Chinese government for its support for Ukraine's efforts of maintaining national independence and sovereignty and fighting against separatism over years and will continue resolutely supporting China's policies of safeguarding national unity and territorial integrity. Ukraine expects to make joint efforts with China to push for continuous progress of the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.
