Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister

On March 28, 2006, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Veselovskyi, who was here in China to hold the political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

Li indicated that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 14 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with fruitful cooperation in all areas, with which China is satisfied. The Chinese government attaches great importance to relations with Ukraine and would like to continuously build up mutual political trust between both sides, strengthen cooperation in bilateral and international affairs and push for in-depth development of bilateral friendly relations.

Veselovskyi noted that to consolidate and develop bilateral friendly cooperative relations conforms to the fundamental interest of both countries and their people. The Ukrainian government adheres to the one-China principle, supports the efforts by the Chinese government to safeguard state sovereignty and territorial integrity and would like to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation at all levels and in various areas.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
