On April 28, 2006, Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui met with the delegation of Ukrainian diplomats headed by Director-General Valeriy Rylach of the Third Territorial Directorate General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Assistant Foreign Minister Li made positive comments on bilateral relations, indicating that China cherishes traditional friendship between both sides, attaches great importance to friendly cooperation with Ukraine, appreciates the Ukrainian government for adhering to the one-China principle and would like to build up understanding and mutual trust with Ukraine, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push for in-depth development of bilateral ties.

Rylach noted that Ukraine gives top priority to relations with China and hopes to maintain bilateral high-level exchanges and expand cooperation in the areas of economy & trade, science & technology and education. The Ukrainian government supports the position of the Chinese government on the Taiwan question and will as always pursue the one-China policy and support China's grand cause of reunification.
