On November 2, 2006, after concluding his Kiev tour, Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), left for Simferopol, the capital of Ukraine's Autonomous Republic of Crimea. First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Supreme Council and other top officials saw Jia off at the airport. On the same day, Jia met with Chairman Anatoliy Hrytsenko of the Supreme Council and Chairman Viktor Plakida of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in Simferopol. Jia said during his Ukraine tour, he and Ukrainian leaders reviewed the development process of the friendly cooperation between both countries and expressed satisfaction with the achievements of the cooperation in all areas. Both sides held that there is huge potential and broad prospect in the economic and trade cooperation. Both sides exchanged views on furthering China-Ukraine relations and trade cooperation and reached a wide range of consensus. Through the visit, Jia deeply felt both countries, as good friends and partners with mutual reliance and sincere cooperation, cherish the development of bilateral ties and mutually beneficial cooperation. Jia believed with the joint efforts of both sides, the traditional friendship will be further consolidated and the friendly cooperation will score new achievements continuously. Jia said regional exchanges and cooperation are an important part of bilateral ties and the sound development of bilateral ties creates favorable conditions for regional cooperation. China actively supports the two countries to conduct regional and people-to-people friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation. As the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has an advantageous geographical location and abundant resources, there are sound prospects for its cooperation with China's related provinces and municipalities. Since China's province of Hainan and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea forged friendly ties in 1996, their exchanges have been dynamic with cooperation growing continuously. Jia hoped that both sides will continue efforts to become a fine example of regional cooperation between the two countries. Hrytsenko and Plakida extended warm welcome for Jia's visit. They said as the relations between the two countries have been developing continuously in recent years, their regional cooperation has also grown vigorously, which can be partly seen in an increasing of economic, trade and educational exchanges between the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and China's relevant provinces and municipalities. They expressed willingness to strengthen friendly exchanges, consolidate friendship, and explore new cooperation approaches with the province of Hainan so as to push for bilateral ties through close regional cooperation.
