Chinese President Hu Jintao Meets with Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ukraine Oleksander Moroz at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing

On the afternoon of March 29, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Chairman of the Supreme Council of Ukraine Oleksander Moroz at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ukraine 15 years ago, bilateral relations have witnessed sound and steady development with frequent exchanges of high-level visits and fruitful cooperation in all areas. Both sides have shown mutual understanding in international affairs and supported each other on major issues of mutual concern. Hu appreciated Ukraine for adhering to the one-China policy and taking the relationship with China as a top priority of its foreign policy, and spoke highly of the contribution made by the Ukraine Supreme Council to developing bilateral relations.

China respects the development path Ukraine has taken in accordance with its own situations as well as the domestic and foreign policies it followed, Hu said. China always sees Ukraine as a faithful friend and reliable partner, and will work with Ukraine to strengthen mutual support, deepen pragmatic cooperation, expand humanistic exchanges and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs, in order to push bilateral comprehensive friendship and cooperative relations to a new level, said Hu.

Moroz said since its adoption of the reform and opening-up policy, China has made great achievements in economic and social development and there is broad prospect in cooperation between the two countries. Ukraine attaches great importance to relations with China, as well as pragmatic cooperation with China in all areas, said Moroz. Ukraine hopes to strengthen exchanges and friendship with China and boost cooperation between the two countries in such areas as economy, trade, society, culture, science, technology, energy and transportation, to advance bilateral ties, he added.

Vice-Chairwoman Liu Yandong, Secretary General Zheng Wantong of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and other officials attended the meeting.
