Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Meets with Uzbek President Karimov

On May 27, 2005, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met with visiting Uzbek President Karimov. Li said that in the past several days the leaders of China and Uzbekistan have reached many important consensuses on deepening China-Uzbekistan relations and strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields. In particular, the China-Uzbekistan Friendly Partnership Treaty signed by the two heads of state lays down a solid legal foundation for the long-term, stable and all-round progress of bilateral ties and creates major opportunities for bilateral cooperation in all fields. The Chinese foreign ministry expects to work with Uzbekistan to fully implement the important consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries and contribute to the constant development of China- Uzbekistan relations. Karimov said that in recent years the Uzbekistan-China relations have been developing steadily in the direction set by the leaders of the two countries. The China-Uzbekistan Friendly Partnership Treaty signed by the two heads of state and other agreements signed between the two countries lay down a solid foundation for deepening the bilateral ties and cooperation and are of great historic significance. The two countries should strengthen cooperation and faithfully push forward those achievements.
