Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev Meets with Wu Yi

On July 16, 2005, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi and the two leaders held cordial and friendly talks on the development of bilateral relations and the promotion of pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan highly values its ties with China. President Hu Jintao paid a successful state visit to Kazakhstan days ago. The two heads of state signed the Joint Statement between China and Kazakhstan on the Establishment and Development of Strategic Partnership and reached a series of agreements on bilateral cooperation in various fields. Kazakhstan will make earnest efforts to fulfill the agreements and keep close political exchanges with China. The president said his country will take measures to ensure a smooth implementation of major bilateral cooperative projects and maintain high-level bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, energy and transportation so as to demonstrate the substantive and strategic significance of the partnership between Kazakhstan and China. He also thanked China for supporting Kazakhstan's bid to join the World Trade Organization. Wu expressed her appreciations for Nazarbayev's significant contributions to the development of bilateral ties over the years. She said China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors, sincere friends and reliable partners. Nazarbayev and Hu's joint pronouncement of the decision to build a strategic partnership between the two countries is epoch-making to the development of bilateral ties, will greatly enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields and is conducive to peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large. Wu said China attaches great importance to bilateral cooperation in such fields as trade, energy and infrastructure, and is ready to work with Kazakhstan to earnestly implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state and to continuously enrich and push forward China-Kazakhstan strategic partnership. Both leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as well as coordination and cooperation in the fight against the "three forces", namely, extremism, separatism and terrorism, so as to safeguard security and stability in both countries and Central Asia, and promote common development.
