Wu Bangguo Meets with Kyrgyz President Bakiyev

On June 9, 2006, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China met with Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev in Beijing. Wu said that bilateral relations enjoy a solid foundation and both sides have completely resolved the boundary issue left over from history, signed the treaty on good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation, shown mutual support on issues of each other's concern, conducted win-win cooperation based on complementary economic advantages and maintained sound cooperation in the UN, the SCO and other multilateral frameworks. China deems Kyrgyzstan an important partner in Central Asia and would like to push for in-depth development of bilateral cooperation in all areas. Wu said that enhanced parliamentary exchanges and cooperation are conducive to building up mutual understanding and friendship between both peoples and conform to the requirement for in-depth development of bilateral good-neighborly relations of friendly cooperation. The NPC of China would like to work with the Kyrgyz parliament to learn from each other in promoting democracy, building the legal system and creating better legal environment for their respective national economic reform and contribute to consolidating and deepening bilateral friendly cooperative relations and promoting common development of both countries. Bakiyev noted that the Kyrgyz parliament hopes to exchange experience with the NPC of China in the area of legislation to ensure closer bilateral political and economic ties and lay a firm legal basis for bilateral cooperation.
