Wen Jiabao Meets with Kazakh President Nazarbayev

2006/12/21

On December 21, 2006, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Wen said in recent years, both sides have signed the treaty on good-neighborhood, friendship and cooperation, established a strategic partnership and formulated the cooperation strategy for the 21st century, laying a solid foundation for the long-term smooth growth of the bilateral ties. China and Kazakhstan shared broad common interests and prospects for the development of bilateral relations, Wen said.

Wen pointed out that China and Kazakhstan have highly complementary economies and it is in the interests of both countries and their people to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation on an equal footing. Both sides should earnestly implement the consensus reached at the third meeting of the Sino-Kazakh Cooperation Committee, Wen said. "We should work closely to strengthen energy cooperation, increase the proportion of high value-added and high-tech products in two-way trade, encourage Chinese and Kazakh enterprises to step up mutual investment and expand cooperation in infrastructure fields such as railways, highways and power stations," Wen said.

Nazarbayev expressed his satisfaction with the growth momentum of the bilateral relations. The sustainable growth of the Chinese economy offered opportunities for the two countries to promote mutually beneficial cooperation, Nazarbayev said. He hoped that both sides will improve cooperation in fields such as energy, high and new tech, communications, machinofacture, and infrastructure construction, expand mutual investment and comprehensively enhance cooperation level according to the blueprint for economic cooperation signed between the two countries.
