On February 14, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met in the Indian capital of New Delhi with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, exchanging views on Sino-Russian ties, as well as international and regional issues of common interest.

The two foreign ministers hailed the fruitful mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in all areas last year, which can be seen in the successful "Year of Russia" and enhanced strategic cooperation. Both sides are ready to take the opportunity of the "Year of China" from a new historical starting point and continue to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, so as to promote greater development of bilateral ties, they said.
