Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui Meets with Kazakh Foreign Minister Tazhin

On May 21, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin on the sidelines of the for the 63rd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Kazakhstan.

Li conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes from Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi to Foreign Minister Tazhin. Li said bilateral ties are now at their best since the establishment of diplomatic relations 15 years ago. The launch of strategic partnership in July 2005 marks that such ties have entered a new phase of development with deepened pragmatic cooperation in all areas, expanded trade scale, optimized trade mix and major progress made in large economic and technological projects, Li said. He pledged that China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to bear in mind the strategic direction of bilateral ties and push for China-Kazakhstan good-neighborly friendship and cooperative ties in an all-round manner.

Tazhin thanked China for sending a delegation to the 63rd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held in Kazakhstan and asked Li to convey his greetings to Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Tazhin said since the two countries established diplomatic ties 15 years ago, their mutual political trust has been deepened and cooperation areas have been expanded continuously. President Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to China last year has helped inject new vitality into the in-depth development of bilateral ties, he said. Tazhin emphasized that it is one of the priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy to actively develop ties with China and Kazakhstan will persistently contribute to consolidating the good-neighborly and friendly cooperation.

Both sides also exchanged views on such issues as the situation in the Middle East and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
