Hu Jintao Arrives in Chelyabinsk to Observe SCO Joint Anti-Terrorism Military Exercise

On August 16, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Chelyabinsk, Russia to observe a joint anti-terrorism drill staged by the six member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Hu flew in from Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, after paying a state visit to the country and attending a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

On August 17, Hu Jintao, along with the heads of other five SCO member states, is expected to observe the "Peace Mission 2007" anti-terrorism military exercise.

This is the first joint and multilateral anti-terrorism drill staged by all the six members of the SCO. The "Peace Mission 2007" exercise, which started on Aug. 9 in Urumqi, China, is being held in Chelyabinsk, Russia. It is scheduled to conclude on Aug. 17.

Hu Jintao will also pay a state visit to Kazakhstan after observing the drill.
