President Hu Jintao Meets with Kazakh Senate Chairman Tokaev

On August 18, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Kazakh Senate Chairman Kasymzhomart Tokaev in Astana.

Hailing Chinese-Kazakh ties, Hu said since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 15 years ago, they have enhanced political trust, deepened pragmatic cooperation and kept closer security cooperation with sound coordination on international and regional issues. Hu emphasized that in recent years, a series of large-scale cooperation projects have been launched one after another, giving impetus to the concrete cooperation between the two countries. He expected the Kazakh parliament to support and attach importance to the cooperation in all areas.

Hu pointed out that recent years have witnessed close exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries. He vowed China supports multi-level, multi-field exchanges and cooperation between the two legislatures to contribute to the development of bilateral strategic partnership.

Tokaev said that the development of ties with China has been given priority in the Kazakh foreign policy and Kazakhstan will make unremitting efforts to develop pragmatic cooperation with China in all fields. The Kazakh parliament commended the close coordination between the two countries in economic, security, UN-related affairs and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, he said, expressing delight with the high-level development of bilateral ties. He pledged continued efforts to offer legal guarantee for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Vice Premier Wu Yi attended the meeting.
